Sofia Arie James

is a Costume Designer and Stage Manager for theatre, a leader, artivist and most recently a key player in the Selma Arts Center Diaspora Dreams all-Black play series. Born and raised in the multicultural Fresno County, she has traveled through the California Central Valley and the East Coast for numerous theatrical endeavors. She first discovered theatrical design and production while dancing in the ensemble in a children's production of High School Musical and has never looked back. She is a proud feminist, lover of calling cues and all things related to textile arts. Sofia's artistic purpose is centered around amplifying ALL marginalized voices, diversifying the theatrical landscape, and anti-racism. She continues to inspire hope for a more sustainable humankind in the face of adversity and strives toward a future filled with equity, inclusion and diversity.
Sofia was recently named one of the Dean's Medalists for the College of Arts and Humanities at California State University, Fresno, and she is currently a nominee for the President's Award. She is also one of the 2022 and 2023 recipients of Bulldog Pride Fund Scholarships and the Larry Newsome Theatre Arts Award in 2022.
